may 11th, 2009: i want popsicles

i've been going to a lot of graduations lately. my brother ryan graduated on saturday.

my wide angle lens came in the mail, and even though it is not exactly what I expected, its not too bad.

i broke my board a couple of days ago and have had to stop skateboarding for the time being because i don't have insurance.

in dolcim news, our t-shirts came in!!!! we sold some of them at the show.

also, the show last night went really well. (more pictures coming soon.) we autographed some shirts, which was weird.

in kafka news, the new artwork will be coming in the mail today hopefully. oh i didn't go over that. i got the tapes in the mail and the artwork was too dark (hence the lack of pictures.) so the tape company is sending me the artwork separately. it will barely make it here before tour. but since the tapes were shrink wrapped, i had to cut the bottom of the shrink wrap to fit the new artwork into the tape and tape it back up. each tape will come with a sticker included. should be awesome. i have sold several pre-order copies so far. i am sending out quite a few tomorrow. but I am going to have to hold off on the online orders because I obviously won't be able to ship them while i am in europe. zac from open water records will be handling the u.s. orders. you can order tapes from his webstore here . i will be selling the copies on tour with me so bring some extra dough to the shows.

the kafka stickers came in the mail!

these last few days are going to be insane.

the final countdown...

-we leave for tour in 2 days...

dolcim tour diary in 2 days

damn!

currently packing, running around trying to get everything situated before i leave.

the site will start undergoing changes soon...

may 9th, 2009: "content to drift" full-length cassette release!!!!!

finally! the kafka tapes came in the mail today and are now available on sleepinghouse records. soon you will be able to order directly from the sleepinghouse records page!

last dolcim show in the united states for the next few months tonight at wallstreet at 10:00 p.m.!!!!!!

2 countdowns off the list...

may 7th, 2009: i am overdressed

well, as you may or may not have noticed, dot tk has been down the past 2 days. its the first time i have had a issue with the domain and not the server. anyway its back up now.

so seanconley.tk is now 1 years old! yay! and to celebrate, i didn't do anything. i haven't much time to do much of anything really. its crazy, since i dont have a job anymore i have been just as busy. most of my time has been spent dealing with this court stuff. my uncle gave me the number to this guy in greensboro. i called him and he was a pretty cool guy. he is going to get my wreckless driving knocked down to a non moving offence, that's the good news. the bad news is that it's going to cost me about 500 dollars, which i am thoroughly pissed about, especially for a 1st offense. government bastards. on top of that, i have to do an online driving school course, which is what I have been doing for the past 2 days. i started it wednesday and finished it yesterday, it took me about 8 and 1/2 hours and cost 35 bucks. bullshit.

in other less depressing news, the graduation party was fun, i felt lame putting up banners and stuff and for a post-graduation party to begin with, but for the most part it was for my brother so that was fine. my brother graduates this saturday may 9th! way to go bro! anyway, here are some pictures from the get together. some people that i thought would come didn't, and some that i didn't think would did. but either way, i hadnt seen some of these people in a good while.

chelsea made some awesome cupcakes. my uncles, cousins, grandmother, and mom came out and some of my homies as well.
some hula hooping went down, including my dad trying it.
rick and i shared a moment.
my friend lindsey brought me some balloons, including a hannah montana blow up guitar and harry potter, which we let off into the sky.
my grandmother came down from tullahoma. my old neighborhood friend jonathan came with his friend thomas.
i got a hold of the hanna montanacaster while my cousin ted and his daughter lacey hung out.
rick wrote some encouraging words, and there was tetherball.

in kafka news, i jumped the gun, the tapes did not come in on monday. sorry. i did however get an email today with a tracking number, so i can confirm that the tapes will be here on saturday. so content to drift will be released may 9th. cross out may 4th on your calendars and put may 9th. i apologize to the pre-orders. the updated countdown will still continue. in related news, the stickers will be arriving very soon...

in dolcim news, we are playing our record release show with tony danza tapdance extravaganza and under the earth this saturday. we will be playing 2 brand new songs, that aren't recorded or anything so come see us before we leave for europe! also, the shirts should be arriving soon.

at about 6 o'clock today, i set up my drums for the first time since february. i played for about 20 minutes, and was making spaghetti in the kitchen when i heard a knock on the backdoor. i walked into the den to find an officer of the law standing there. apparently the neighbors that had just moved in next door 2 months ago called the cops because of my drums. he was a nice guy, and told me to do some soundproofing or something. i told him i was leaving for europe next week and that i had been playing drums in this room for over 8 years and never had any trouble. i even played in the front yard several months ago. apparently there isn't a noise ordinance anymore? i thought it was 9 or something. he said he wouldn't write me a citation. no shit. it was lame, and needless to say i won't be playing drums in this house anymore. i havent even been home for a week yet.

the countdowns are almost over:

-content to drift comes out in 2 days.

dolcim record release / european tour kick off show in 2 days

april 29th, 2009: happy songs for happy people

i went 90 almost the entire way and made the 10 hour drive in 7 hours and 45 minutes. on top of that, i got 500 miles on 1 tank of gas. i almost made the entire drive without having to fill up! i arrived in spring lake and walked up the stairs and steven had brody waiting at the top for me. "uncle sean" is here! it was nice meeting brody. steven had to work the next couple of days so i spent most of the time hanging out with sandy and brody and finishing up the artwork for the tapes. since there wasn't alot to do in spring lake, we mostly just hung out at the house. it was nice just relaxing for a few days.

the smalleys and uncle sean

on friday we dropped brody off at the babysitters and headed an hour and a half to carrboro, near chapel hill. we got there as the twilight sad was ending their set. cat's cradle is a cool venue and we walked around as mogwai set up. we tried to get close but there were several hundred people there so it made it difficult. it was good to see mogwai again, it had been about 3 years. i really love this band, and they have had quite an influence on kafka on the shore. anyway, they played songs off of their first album ten rapid, and steven and my favorite song "hunted by a freak." they also played songs off of their new album and all of their other albums as well. they left the stage and came back with 2 more songs as an encore, including "my father, my king."

after the show, steven got a set list and we waited around outside for the guys to come out. we talked to stuart and dominic, and i told them that steven and i had seen them back in 2006 in nashville. and i told them my band was touring europe and even playing glasgow. they said they would try to come to the show if they were in town but not to get mad at them if they couldn't make it. haha. i got a picture taken with them and was honored to have spoken with them. they signed our posters we bought and then someone off the tour bus got a soccer ball and they played a game right there in the parking lot as we left. on the way home steven got pulled over for going 53 in a 35, wreckless driving, but the officer let him go. all in all it was a really good night.

me and mogwai
carrboro, NC april 24th, 2009

the next morning was a different story. i left a bag of shirts that i gave brody and we took some pictures. i left spring lake saturday a lot later than i had anticipated and was speeding back to hopefully make it in less than 8 hours. well, while driving through greensboro in a little county called "guilford," the speed limit went from 55 to 65 and then back to 55 again. the state trooper waited until i had just entered the 55 zone to pull me over. " license. i clocked you at 77 a couple miles back." he took my license and walked off. 77 in a 55, which is wreckless driving. the state trooper came back and handed me a piece of paper. "your court date is june 19th. have a nice day" and walked off. the piece of paper did not have a fine price, a number or any other information that would be helpful it did read "if you fail to appear, you may be arrested and your driver's license will be revoked." the first thing i thought to myself was "im going to be in lyon, france on that day, then next, i'm 8 hours away from tennessee, why a court date, why not a fine?" i found out today after calling numerous numbers and places that this is not a ticket and cannot be paid. i must be present for the court date or they will issue a warrant for my arrest. my 1st speeding violation, at age 24, is a citation and a court date. i now have to hire an attorney to represent me 8 hours away while im in europe, which will cost several hundred dollars I am sure. yeah i was speeding, and im okay with paying a fine, because in the end that is all the state wants. but now i have to go through all of the hassle of finding and attorney and doing all of the legal bullshit involved. thanks north carolina!

after getting my citation, i had to drive the speed limit the whole way home, which took the entire 10 hours. it was depressing. i made it to nashville right around midnight and walked into springwater right as hour of owls (bgkf members) were playing their 2nd show as a band. i didn't know how long they had been playing but i took some pictures.

it was great to see them play. i found out later that night that this was their last show ever, as kyle is continuing his solo project ak dub. check out "chris mas." and chris has a project as well, nightmare cats. it was good to see the guys as i hadn't seen them since i was in high school, when they were bike gang knife fight:

bgkf bgkf color

in dolcim news: here is the flyer for the may 9th show. also, we ordered our shirts!!!!! 60 of them, all different colors. they will be coming in right before we leave for tour, we cut it close ordereding them so late. justin and i put these flyers up over town yesterday.

in kafka news, there is a ton! i ordered stickers yesterday, and they should come in right before tour as well. the MOST important news, i sent off the masters and artwork to be put on tape. it is a huge relief and has been a long time coming. i have been working on this album for the past year and 2 months, from writing, to recording, to mastering. i didn't get all of the things i wanted but i think everything will turn our rather nicely. lastly, there are 2 new songs on the myspace page." familiar strangers," which was one of the last songs i finished, and "layover," the last track on the album. check them out. when the album comes out on may 4th, i will be posting the artwork, and track listings.

my vacation is finally over. i have my last day of work at t-mobile today. check one of the countdowns off the list. it's bittersweet though. i am going to miss the paychecks and some of my co-workers, but the job really wasn't for me, but i did learn a lot from the job. i learned i never want to do this as a career.

my brother ryan is graduating next month and since i didnt have a graduation party, we are combining the two and having our graduation party may 2nd at barfield park in murfreesboro, tennessee.

april 22nd, 2009: north carolina or bust

I thought I would do a quick update before I got on the road to go see steven, sandy and brody. I’ll be on the road for over 9 hours so its going to be a long drive for someone with nothing to think about…

In other news,  I’m 24 now. it hasn't really sunk in yet.

i hung out with matt and justin for a bit. then I hung out with some old friends who some I hadn’t seen since I moved to nashville a year ago. seth bought donuts and everyone sang happy birthday, it was nice.

happy birthday me and seth

also thanks to everyone who called and remembered my birthday.

my mom drove in from columbia last night and we had a proper birthday dinner with my dad.

In dolcim news, we are playing our europe tour kickoff show on saturday may 9th with tony danza. It should be a good show, so mark your calendars, because we leave for tour 4 days after that. a flyer will be posted soon. Also, I wanted to let americans know, you can order our vinyl l.p. from ryan’s distro, icfyc here

also, a special note:

i will be converting my page into a dolcim tour diary so that we can all keep everyone updated on what will be going on during the tour. this will include entries, pictures and tour updates as we travel through europe. this starts on may 13th.

In kafka news, my computer crashed, with all of my songs on it. it was just recently fixed. So I will hopefully be sending off the songs very soon... I am still finishing the artwork and waiting on a few things... 2 new songs will be on the page soon...

april 19th, 2009: death to my hometown

on april 10th, several tornadoes touched down in my hometown of murfreesboro and destroyed over 100 homes and killed 2 people. it made national news.

my phone wasn't working and i couldn't get ahold of anyone to see if they were okay. i was trying to get ahold of my friend mike because i found out a tornado touched down near where he lives. it took me 45 minutes of detours and getting turned away to get to his house. while on the way there, i encountered this:

when i finally turned onto his street, this is what i saw:

the tornado literally circled his house destroying all of the trees and then demolished the house right next to his. it also took out the power lines, leaving his entire neighborhood without electricity, and right before the weekend. mike's dad will be using some of my pictures for his insurance company.

we walked to the house and went inside making sure no one was in there.

while on my way to work the next morning, i passed through regency park, and went down the street to where my dad used to live. i saw this:

the tornadoes were rated as EF 4's with 166-200 mph winds.

insane.

so i am officially moved back to murfreesboro, even though i am still working 40 hours a week in nashville. it took both my days off from work to finish moving and now my stuff is everywhere. now i am back at work and don't know when i will be able to get things situated. i took a picture with my roommate chris before i left.

roommates
this pose is supposed to show off our muscles? thanks chris.

in other news, i put my 2 weeks notice in at my job last wednesday. i have added something new to the countdown.

and the countdowns continue...

i turn 24 tomorrow. damn.

april 9th, 2009: we can be happy underground

I usually don’t update this often, but I felt compelled to.

In dolcim news, the guillotine ride vinyl lp’s are here!!!!

lp's! inserts!

a limited quantity is available on the sleepinghouse records page for order.

cementing the seams has written a review of the record. you can read it here:

in music related news...april 7th was a fun day. I got off work early, and then kaylie and mike came up to nashville for the ben folds show.
mike and I both got into ben folds (five) back in elementary school, i'd say around 5th grade, and kaylie has been a long time fan as well. This would make my 4th time seeing ben, with mike and erin the first time at uptown mix years ago, then with steven, seth and erin at a free personal show at vanderbilt, then with kaylie at the sommet center several years ago.
we all met at my apartment and listened to the new album way to normal.

bft

then we went and and ate at ru sans, with each of us getting our respective delicious vegetarian sushi. i got teriyaki eggplant and sweet potato, kaylie got maki vegetable, and mike got cranberry, which was bold.

after that we went looking for parking spots, which proved to be quite difficult, but we finally found one. As we entered the ryman and found our seats, there was quite a lot of commotion and we were unsure if any of the bands had played.
they had. ben folds, jared and sam and 2 friends walked out on the stage and opened up with "bitch went nuts" off of the new album way to normal. then, it apparently was this guy's birthday, so he yelled out "sing happy birthday." ben's reaction to this turned into one of the best impromptu improv jams i have ever been a witness too, and only the 2nd song of the set! ben has been known to make up songs before but this was brilliant. as they jammed, ben made up the words singing "happy birthday motherfucker" throughout. he ended the song saying " i hope this is the greatest day of your life" and i dont doubt that for that guy it was. lucky bastard. Throughout the set he played a few new songs and then just old songs. I noticed at one point that there were actually 5 people on the stage, making for would have been a complete “ben folds (five)” interestingly enough.

ben and sam ben

Halfway through the set, the other members left the stage and it was just ben for several songs. he told a few stories, like when he lived near belmont blvd (where I currently live now) in the early 90’s. the other musicians got back on the stage and he played "narcolepsy" off of unauthorized biography of reihnold messner, a song I had never seen live. Then he played “landed,” one of my favorite and most nostalgic songs. i called her. the songs went on into the night as he had the audience sing in different sections for “not the same.” Then he played some more new songs off of his new e.p. stems and seeds.

Ater this he played “rockin' the suburbs,”“army,” and “zak and sara.” They walked off the stage and kaylie, mike and I got out of our seats and walked up the aisle to get closer to the stage. we knew their would be an encore. kaylie was hoping they would play “kate.” as the crowd roared, they all came back on the stage for a few more songs. they played “underground” which he played last time I saw him at the sommet center. during my favorite part of the song, “I’m sure you don’t remember me…” I yelled out “who the fuck are you!?” which is a direct reference off of naked baby photos. He then played “fair” off of whatever and ever amen.  they ended the night with "kate" and I turned around and saw how ecstatic kaylie was. it was perfect.

after that we stood in line to get a shirt, but the guy in front of us got the last medium which bummed mike out. they had smalls so I got a shirt. After that we walked the streets of nashville to my car and drove back to my apartment. mike and kaylie had school the next day, so they headed back to murfreesboro. all in all it was a really good night

in other news, in an attempt to save money before tour, I am moving out of my apartment in west end next week. it's going to be weird.

i did a huge update on the sleepinghouse records page. i had some people asking questions about how to order records off of the website so that issue is resolved on the releases page.

In other other news, let the countdowns begin:

-my 24th birthday is on the 20th...11 days away

-i’m going to north carolina to see the smalleys and mogwai in 13 days

- seanconley.tk "1 years anniversary" in 21 days.

-content to drift comes out in 25 days.

-tour is in 34 days.

april 3rd, 2009: naked baby photos

On march 14th at 2:53 p.m. brody james smalley came into the world weighing in at 8 pounds 5 ounces and 20.5 inches tall.

brody james smalley
he’s a cute little bugger. congratulations steven and sandy.

I talked to steven for a good while the day he was born. he told me and i quote: "sean, never have a baby, it’s too intense." haha. i can't wait to see the smalley family at the end of this month.

exciting news! I got my international drivers license this week.
im now officially licensed to drive in europe!

international driver's license

that's right. i will be driving on the left side of the road through england up to scotland, through the alps into italy, and all of the other countries we are traveling to. I wanted to drive last tour but couldn’t. the van is a stick, and justin doesn’t know how to drive one, so we will be teaching him in the next few weeks. it's been a while since i taught someone how to drive a stick so it should be fun.

In dolcim news, we played 2 shows last month, our first shows in 8 months! the guys from sweden in suis la lune and army of kashyyyk from baltimore were all really cool guys. I showed them around nashville a little bit before the show and we ate at international market down the street from where I live. the shows went well and they stayed at my apartment that night.

Oli Sanders of the UK based Collective Zine wrote a review of our full-length.
You can read it here:

I am also working on our t-shirt design right now, so I will post the graphic when it's finished. Also, we are waiting for our copies of the vinyl L.P., they should be arriving this week.

In kafka news, there is a ton:
After intensely working and reworking the songs over the past month, I finally finished mastering all of the tracks .
The upcoming full-length is entitled “content to drift” and is scheduled to be released on tape may 4th, 2009 on sleepinghouse records, about a week before I leave for tour.
I will be taking a number of copies with me on tour to sell at the shows.
I updated the myspace page for the first time in 2 months. i put 4 new mastered songs. these include: "hindsight," "moniker," "seashells," and "laundry." go check them out and don’t forget to use headphones
now that the songs are finished, I will be doing some volume tweaking and then I will send them off to be put on tape soon. I am also finishing up the artwork.
the open water records tape compilation will be coming out at the end of april.
2 new songs will be appearing on the page later this month so stay tuned.

In other news, my mom got a job, but couldn’t find her keys for 2 days so she lost it. I thought I had bad luck. She called me on st. patrick’s day and told me that she was on her way to bartending school in nashville. Yeah, bartending school. Crazy. My mom, at 55 has now resorted to training to be behind a bar. she has been staying at a hotel in donelson, so lately I have been going skating at the concrete park and then hanging out with her.

I watched the criterion collection chungking express on bluray with ryan lewis the other day. it's one of the only 4 movies criterion has released on bluray, crazy. but I have to say, I love the original better, with all of the scratches on the film. plus, on the new one, the subtitles are different, including my favorite quote of the whole film.

I am currently watching shinobi yaguchi’s "adrenaline drive"

ben folds at the ryman is 4 days away!

march 13th, 2009: in the world of time, things can never go back to the way they were

i would have just gotten back from japan this month, after living there for 6 months. crazy how things work and don't work out.

It's been over a month since I have been on here. my apologies, but i have my reasons. I’ll try to remember everything that has happened.

main reason: I haven’t had internet for over 2 weeks now. there is a guy who lives on the 1st floor of my apartment who has a one-eyed dog named griffin. I pay him about 10 bucks a month to use his wireless internet, which doesn’t work that great on the 3rd floor, but still. anyway, he moved to Chicago a few weeks ago so now I don’t have internet anymore.

as you may have noticed, i made some changes to the page. i added the archives section to the toolbar, and added everything from 2008 on there. i'm trying to get everything organized better. the short stories section is now called "words" and i will be including papers and some new content on there in the near future.

I’ve been working like crazy. they have been offering overtime at work, so the past 2 nights I worked 12-12 shifts, totaling 24 hours of work in 2 days. overtime = time and ½ which is good money. I’ve also been trading shifts with people so I can have saturday off. I’ve been working until midnight most nights, which sucks. i think i worked 52 hours last week.

It snowed last week. then after that, it got really warm. I've been skateboarding nonstop this past week, almost every night at the concrete park. it's gotten cold again and rainy the past few days. I was filming the nashville skyline the other night, and it looked like this.

nashville snow nashville rain

I bought tickets to see ben folds on april 7th at the ryman. it's going to be epic. I got kaylie and mike tickets so they could come which will be really nice, as we have been to ben shows together before. i saw oasis at the ryman and it was amazing. its been a while since I have seen benny boy, even though he lives close to my neighborhood.

everyone has been having birthdays lately. justin turned 28 february 28th, matt turned 28 march 5th, mike turned 23 march 11th, and taylor turned 20 march 13th.

I just got off the phone with steven, and it appears that brody could be born sometime tonight or tomorrow morning. they were originally expecting him around march 3rd. sandy was having contractions yesterday, which is a good sign, they are going for the most natural birth possible. its insane though, my best friend is about to be a father. I've had my phone on me all day waiting for "the call."
In related news, I will be driving to north carolina to visit the smalleys and brody at the end of april, and… we are going to see MOGWAI!!!! the last time steven and I saw mogwai was back in 2006 in nashville. They are one of my favourite bands, and I am really excited. I just bought their new album "the hawk is howling" about a month ago and it’s a return to their earlier sound. the sun smells too loud is my favourite track right now.

in kafka news: Ive been working on the songs for the full-length nonstop:

working on full length

this is my workspace. I just got a program that has mastering software so I am about to start mastering all of the songs. It’s been an intense and time consuming process.
The kafka on the shore song “footnote” will be on an open water records tennessee tape compilation coming out in april. there will be new songs on the page soon so stay tuned!

In dolcim news, the full length "guillotine ride" had its official european vinyl release saturday march 7th! taken directly from the react with protest page:

We also have 2 shows this month:

march 20th show march 23rd show

Monday March 23rd with clinging to the trees of a forest fire (Denver) sacaea, and O'sullivan Harvestor of Death 1863 at The Warehouse 1318 Little Hamilton Nashville, TN 37203

In other news, the economy is shite as we all know. steven's dad lost his job. and my mom had to resign from her job last week, due to allegations at the elementary school where she was inappropriately reassigned to after being demoted. she hadn’t been in a classroom setting in 27 years. she was 2 years shy of retiring with 30 years of teaching. It’s all bullshit. She is also not receiving backpay for the last 4 months.  Now she is out of money, and has applied for food stamps.  she is interviewing for jobs that she is overqualified for. She did just buy a car though, so the truck is back! I can’t wait to drive it again, it’s been almost a year.

i guess that's all for now. there will be some more new stuff added to the page soon and it should be loading a lot better now, apparently i'm a moron when it comes to webpage design.

i’m currently watching wong kar wai’s "days of being wild."

tour is exactly 2 months away....

february 12th, 2009i was there, leo, remember? old shredder did a swan dive, with a half gainer, right into the back of a garbage truck!

first things first, the exciting news:

In dolcim news, we ordered our europe tickets last friday night.
so it’s officialmay 13th-july 1st we will be touring europe! we got a really great deal, and we are flying AirCanada. So this means I will be in Toronto, Ontario, my first time in Canada. This will also be my 4th trip back over the pond.

this past weekend I went to the premiere of the new skate video, Alien Workshop’s "Mind Field." It was awesome. There were over a hundred people there and the video was really good, and had a great soundtrack. afterwards, we all skated in the same room.

since I have graduated I have found myself having some more free time, with which at first I did not know what to do with. after about 2 months of adjusting, I am back in full swing and doing things i have been wanting to do. a lot of skateboarding, and more recently cinematography. I went back and made some changes to an old short of mine called “the roommate.” I will hopefully be premiering it soon. I have also picked back up on some older video projects and started some new ones including timelapses. stay tuned…

in bad news, I have found myself sick again. I started to lose my voice last week and then woke up friday morning, having trouble breathing and unable to speak. I went to work, and after about an hour of taking calls, I had to leave. You can’t work at a call center without your voice. I went to the doctor and they told me I have laryngitis and an ear infection. awesome i told her. It’s a virus and they told me they couldn’t really do much but let it run its course. Im just glad I have insurance. I went home and slept for 6 hours straight. My voice is slowly coming back. It’s interesting. Instead of talking, I feel like I’m yelling just to get words out, it strains my voice so much, it’s exhausting.

I started my new work schedule, 12 pm-8:30 Saturday-Wednesday. I got the short end of the stick on the re-alignment however. My old schedule was Tuesday through Saturday, so I did the math, I worked 9 days straight, almost an 80 hour work week. Damn. I feel like that is all I do these days. this is my first day off in almost 10 days.

i went to downtown to "the arcade" this past saturday night, where each month they have openings of all the new art galleries. i had been before, but it's been awhle. it was pretty fun. i meandered my way through each gallery, sipping wine all the while. there was some really good stuff by a french painter, and some interesting video art stuff. one of the installations i enjoyed, while the other i didn't. either way, i had 9 cups of free wine and various snacks so i left in a better mood than i arrived.

we have been having some really nice weather this past week, very warm. it's all i really talk about while on the phones. i hope it continues to stay this way as it makes me feel better about life.

well that’s all for now.

february 4th, 2009: it only figures that i ride my bike into wet cement

so it’s february already, about time for an update. the first day of february was beautiful. clear skies, sunny, warm. i couldn’t have asked for a better way to start off the month. and on this sunny day, i was at my dad's house and just recently bought the missing pieces for my drums. since it was so nice outside, i set my drum set up in the front yard. it had been about a year since i played. my sister took a picture as the sun went down.

drums in yard

but the groundhog saw its shadow, which is quite depressing, considering 6 more weeks of winter.

at work the cooks now call me "vegetable man." i don't really mind. i got them to start importing blackbean soy burgers and cooking other vegetarian options. the woman at the check out counter, who also calls me "vegetable man " said that I have inspired her and she is now starting a meatless diet. i told her how healthy it was and she said she felt better too. a little bit at a time. i start my new schedule next sunday, im glad too. getting up every morning at 6 a.m. has run its course.

i‘ve been going to a lot of galleries lately. first, I went to the harmony korine pigxote photo gallery at vanderbilt. It was one of the most disappointing galleries i've ever seen, a waste of time actually. harmony went to tokyo and took pictures of girls on television. not only is it easily replicable, it’s stupid to go to japan and watch tv. oh well, at least it was free.

i also went to the frist, which has a new show called "paint with flesh." It was quite interesting, julian schnabel’s works with broken plates and paint on canvas were nice, and I ending up staring at picasso's stroke patterns for a good while.

i saw charlie kaufman’s new film, Synedoche, N. Y. which he wrote and directed. It was extremely dense, containing elements of eternal sunshine, adaptation, and being john malkovich within it. I felt older and more mature after leaving the theater, similar to how i felt after watching eternal sunshine.

i've been graduated for almost 2 months now. its so weird, everyone I know is in school and I am not. 17 some odd years of schooling and now nothing. It’s a very strange feeling, almost like dropping out.

i have been eating a lot of peanut butter lately, I think im trying to get salmonella.

i've also been going to a lot of shows lately. los campasino’s (bottom left) from Cardiff, England played recently at exit in. then sanctions (bottom right) played in a warehouse last saturday night. roy is now playing 2nd guitar with them.

in video news: I have added a documentary of cease upon the capitol I shot back in 2005 before I joined the band. It’s about recording the full-length at battle tapes, and has footage of practice and a live show. It’s interesting to watch 3 years later, go check it out.

in kafka news, I recently finished a song that I have been working on for almost a year, not consecutively but still. it's called hindsight. I am also working on a new song that will be on the next record. speaking of records, the 4 song e.p. "killing time and injuring eternity" is now finished. it is available on sleepinghouse records.

that's all for now, exciting news coming very soon...

january 22nd, 2008: johannes takes over nashville! pictures and stories

i dropped off johannes at the airport yesterday morning so he could fly back to boston. he was here for a whole week with me. it was sad to see him go, i got used to him being here and we had a lot of fun. go check out his blog, and check out his band: grave, shove, let's go!

here is a recap of the past week with pictures! it might take a while to load...

after i picked johannes from the airport last wednesday night, we hung out and caught up. i took the day off work for the next day. it was 7 degrees fahrenheit outside so we went to the frist. there is a george weston photography and film gallery going on. it was really good and definitely worth checking out. it started with daguerrotypes and covered edward muybridge, experimental photography with flash motion, including the bullet through the apple, and world war II through the landing on the moon.

after that i took him to opryland, (pictures below) and we went by where i used to work and got some gelato. i then took him to the skatepark and did some skateboarding. after that we went to a show at mercy lounge. i had to work friday and saturday, but we were still able to hang out and do some exploring. i took him to an indian vegetarian restaurant called the woodlands which is very good
water show.

saturday night we came to murfreesboro to hang out with matt and justin and I showed him where I grew up. we went by my dad's house on sunday and he met my family which was nice. we now both know our parents and the towns we grew up in. a year after i met his family he met mine.

i took him to the square (pictured below) then we ate falafel's (which i hadn't had since i was in malmo, sweden) and johannes came to dolcim practice. after that we said our goodbyes (pictures below) and headed back to nashville. our stay in murfreesboro was short but to the point.

sebastian!

we went shopping at kroger, a southern staple, and trader joes. johannes is vegan, so i ate vegan for a whole week. it was very different and i liked it a lot, so i am thinking about it for the future. we talked to his brother sebastian, (above right) of june paik through skype. i hadn't talked to him in a long time. he is at medical school in hungary right now. i can't wait to see him this summer.

on monday, my day off, we were very productive. it was the "tourist" day and I was the tour guide. I took him to the parthenon, (pictures below) and then we went to fort "fagley." we both learned about this fort and tennessee history, especially the civil war. after that, i took him to my favorite place in nashville, where you can see the entire city (picture below). as if that wasn't enough, we then went to the country music hall of fame! we didn't go into the actual museum, but he bought some nashville tourist stuff. oh country music.

parthenon

then i took him downtown to the riverfront (pictured below). later that night, johannes, my roommate chris, and i went and ate sushi with ryan lewis. after hanging out and talking through the night, i had to go to bed so i could get up early for work. bummer. but it was good hanging out with ryan, and johannes hadn't seen him since the cease tour june-july 2007 when we he drove back the van back to dresden.

tuesday, i got off work an hour early and we went to the tennessee state museum downtown. i hadn't been there since elementary school. johannes loved learning about tennessee history and it was good for me to refresh my memory as well.

foobar in east nashville

after that, we went out to some really country bars, and saw some country rockabilly bands (playing johnny cash covers) so he could have the real "nashville" experience (said in an extremely southern accent). We ended off his last night in town by going to east nashville to foobar, a real redneck bar. i taught him to play shuffleboard (pictured above) and my east nashville friends, jeremy, justin, and jamison all came to hang out. all in all, we had a good time, and i after show him around, i like nashville more and have a better appreciation of this city.

so come back anytime johannes, and don't forget the LOLS.

that's all for now...

i'm working on some new material, so kafka songs coming soon...

january 20th: 2009: HISTORY IS MADE: OBAMA is the 44th President!

today will go down in the history books. obama is inagaurated as the first african american president of the united states. i was able to witness it, but i was at work. i had to be at work this morning by 7. I took calls all morning and watched CNN as everyone gathered around the white house to watch. while working on customer's account, i watched as obama gave his speech as he was inducted as the 44th president. i felt very good about it. i even wore my obama shirt today. i have never been much for politics, but after 8 years i think everyone was tired and ready for change. as obama made his speech, he spoke with confidence and intelligence. i am excited for what is to come and for the first time in a long time pleased with the head of our country.

i got off work early, the call volume due to inagauration was very low. so im taking johannes to the tennessee state museum so he can learn about the history of tennessee.

sadly, i have to take johannes to the airport tomorrow morning because he is flying back to boston. so this is johannes's last night in town.

pictures...stories...

STAY TUNED...

january 19th: 2009: JOHANNES IS HERE!!!!!!!!!!

tickets to the gun show me and johannes

i picked up johannes from the airport wednesday night. he flew in from los angeles, and before that he was in italy, and before that back home in germany. he has been traveling non-stop. it's been over a year since we saw each other last. this is also his first time in tennessee! it's snowing really hard outside right now. it's kind of pretty. i'm taking him around to get the nashville experience.

pictures and stories coming soon...

one day until obama is inagaurated!!!

january 12th, 2009: heavily medicated: all i know is that i don't know

happy late new year. these past few weeks have been a blur. it's amazing how much you think you know about yourself. i'm so wrong i'm right.

I woke up this morning to president bush making his 47th and final speech. he reflected over the past 8 years and acknowledged his mistakes, but failed however to take responsibility for them. 8 days until history will be made and this country will be headed in the right direction. it's crazy to think how long i have been counting down until this day and now it's less than a week away.

i’ve been really sick this past week. work and sleep have consumed my life.
heavily medicated is the best way to decribe my current state. it’s been awful. I still don’t have my senses of taste and smell. food has never been so boring.

I am picking up johannes from the airport in 2 days. while skating back from getting him a key made, i witnessed a car wreck happen right in front of me. im beginning to think i'm bad luck.

In dolcim news, the album is finally completely finished. We finished mastering it last thursday night and celebrated. we’re sending the album and the artwork off today. it will be pressed on vinyl and released in march or april.

In kafka news, after 6 months of inactivity, I have finally logged into and updated the myspace page. I added 2 new songs, " seashells,"and "laundry."
check it out. more to come soon.

i leave you with this:

my feet carried me down the road, which was illuminated by the oddly unreal light of the moon, and into the woods. beneath that moonlight, all sounds bore a strange reverberation. the hollow sound of my own footsteps seemed to come from another direction as if I were hearing someone walking on the bottom of the sea, behind me, every now and then I would her a crack or rustle a heavy pall hung over the forest, as if the animals of the night were holding their breath, waiting for me to pass. -murakami

MAY-DECEMBER 2008
2008

december 29th, 2008: une annee

it's been a year today.

the dreams continue. i woke up this morning and forgot where i was.

i went to the bank to put some money in my checking account and i had a -$134 dollar balance. apparently i overdrafted 4 times and didn't realize it. $30 each x 4, so i lost $120 in fees which was about the same amount i tried to deposit. great.

my thoughts are clouded. i feel like im underwater with my eyes open. my head is spinning and i can't see straight.

december 27th, 2008: the only thing worse than bad memories is no memories at all

i'm beginning to wonder if this is true or not. a huge part of my life was recently revisited and instead of putting it off i have decided to deal with it. but after not saying enough, i have said too much.

i'm ready for a new year, even though it won't make much difference.

joyeux noel everyone . i hope everyone had a good one. i missed being in germany, but i hadn't seen my relatives in almost 2 years. they all congratulated me on graduating which was nice. for my graduation and christmas present, my dad and brother got me a toshiba laptop. it's very nice and an amazing gift. i'm excited about what i will be doing with it and i now have something to take on tour. my dad also found some shirts from when i was tiny and gave them to me and my brother. turtles and pee-wee's playhouse.

old shirts

work has been increasingly harder to enjoy. we graduated from training yesterday. i worked my last 12-9 shift and i have a 3 day weekend but start my 7 am- 3:30 schedule on tuesday. i can't wait to have afternoons again. but i have to give up my nights.

depression returns in it's dark cloud form once more.

december 22nd, 2008: come pick me up...i've landed

I don’t really know where to begin. a lot has happened in this past week since i've graduated.

graduation was exactly like I thought it would be. It's funny that I had been waiting for that day for years and years, and it came and went so fast I had trouble believing it was real. during the ceremony, I spent a lot of the time listening to music. i was glad I brought my ipod and watched skate videos on it to pass the time.
I decided to wear my berlin hat instead of my cap, and put the tassel on one of my buttons. so out of the 1,800 graduates, I was the only one wearing a hat.
my mum came up from columbia with my grandmother. after the ceremony, things were a blur. she called, but I called her back this time. she was there and I didn’t even know it. after taking some pictures and hanging out with the less than a handful of my old friends that came, I saw her; through the window outside, standing in the background of my life... where she always is.

in the end I am glad I walked, and that all of this is finally over.

as busy as I have been with school, it seems I have already filled my time with just living life.

my friend taylor who lives in birmingham surprised me on wednesday when he called and said he was coming into town thursday night. so I met up with him and our friend kyle. I hadn’t seen taylor since last august. we only got to hang out once in the 4 days he was here, time constraints.

a year ago I was in germany with her, living in someone's apartment in berlin. then we visited my friends johannes and sebastian and had a real tenenbaum with their family in bayern. it's insane how vivid everything still is. these memories won't fade. my past keeps tugging at me.

I spoke to johannes on the phone the other night. it was good to hear his voice. I hadn’t spoken to him in about a year. he almost missed his train from boston to new york because of the snow. he called me again before his flight back home to germany. he said it was going to be sad not having me with their family this christmas. i feel the same way. but i will be picking him up from the airport january 14th and he will be staying with me for a week.

a lot of my friends are coming into town this christmas:
steven and sandy are coming from north carolina, kate from atlanta, and amy is flying from los angeles. it's going to be nice to see everyone again.

3 days until christmas.

december 14th, 2008: the school chapter of my life has officially closed...

december 12th, 2008: my GRADUATION

SATURDAY DECEMBER 13TH AT 1:00 P.M. AT MTSU'S MURPHY CENTER IN MURFREESBORO, TN.

bachelor of liberal arts degree in mass communication with a concentration in electronic media production and a focus in directing and producing with a minor in film studies.
magna cum laude with honors.

4 1/2 YEARS in the making.

december 11th 2008: don’t give me that attitude maxi, i'm doing it all for you.

i finished college last night. it feels really good to say that but i don't think it's really sunk in yet. i ’m still in sort of a daze. these last 4 months have been really hard and stressful for me and i haven’t really had a life.

i wrote the last paper of my college career on the virgin suicides and turned that in sunday. i turned in my case study in public relations monday, and i studied for my webpage applications final for the last 3 days and took it last night. it was comprehensive, and took 2 hours to finish. it was also extremely difficult. i was physically and mentally exhausted after finishing it. i think an exhaustion for the whole semester kind of hit me. i've been going non-stop for so long. but that’s it, i’m done.

i finished a mere 3 days before graduation. i’ve been so busy this week my brother had to pick up my cap and gown and honors regalia for me. i will be graduating as magna cum laude. crazy.

it hasn’t stopped raining in 3 days. but it’s been kind of nice. it's made it easier to study and i have been sleeping better at night.

in other news:

steven and sandy are coming to visit in late december. I haven’t seen them since the vegas wedding. this will be the last time I see them before they move to italy and have their son.

also, my good friend johannes; who I visited in berlin and stayed with his brother sebastian and their family in bayern last december, is coming to stay with me for a week in mid-january. he's been studying in boston since august. i'm really excited, it's been a year since i've seen him. i'm going to show him around nashville.

things are going to begin to change, for the better. i hope at least. i ’m going to finally have time to do things I want to do. i'm going to finish a lot of kafka songs, and get back into photography and cinematography.

i’m really behind in life, and it’s time to catch up.

november 27th, 2008: down to the wire... it's friendly fire

happy thanksgiving everyone.

we hung some christmas lights in my apartment. its hard to believe it's only a month away.

less than 3 weeks until I finish school.
my graduation is saturday, december 13th at 1:00 p.m. at murphy center in murfreesboro.

ryan's band sanctions had a show the other night at 6th avenue. they played in the bowl as i skated it. i made my first flash animation.

be patient. it's loading...
switch flip

my tags expired this month, so i had to sit at the emissions place off 8th avenue for 45 minutes and was almost late to work. but I now have davidson county tags.

in other news, i got a call from my mom a couple of days ago. she has been driving my truck. someone crawled through the back window and stole the cd player. people are lame. my mom isn't doing so well these days. she's going through some hard times.

dolcim news: we are going to do a split 7" with kias fansuri from malaysia. they are probably going to play some shows with us on tour too!

new kafka songs soon...

that's all for now.

november 21st, 2008: i get up at 6 am, i can't take those dreams that i still have

for valid reasons, i haven’t been sleeping much lately.
i shuffle my feet across the hardwood floor, trying not to make too much noise. but the creaks echo so loud i feel like the whole world hears them. i end up staring out my window at the trees, swaying back and forth. i love being awake when the city is sleeping. i feel like the only person left, alone on earth.

the radiators just started working in my apartment so it’s not freezing anymore. for a while, i was sleeping in socks and sweaters. it reminded me of berlin.

i realized the other day that I haven’t read anything for fun in about 4 months. and i haven’t had any fun since I got back from los angeles. i ’ve lost contact with everyone and I can’t seem to call anyone back. i put my entire life on hold. time blurs the lines until i cant see or feel anything anymore. an empty shell.

i feel like i never really came back from germany. and it's been almost a year.

did I leave a part of myself there?

i'm supposed to be in japan until march and yet i'm here.

is it possible to leave parts of yourself everywhere you go until there’s nothing left? can i go back and find myself?

i'm the main character in a murakami book...

november 6th, 2008: making history, updates, las vegas pictures-steven's wedding

first off, congratulations to our new president, Barack Obama! history was made tuesday night, and we all got to be a part of it. i hope everyone took the opportunity to vote. things will begin to change for the better, and it's going to be a lot of work to fix what bush has done. but i haven't felt this good about the future of our country in over 8 years.

well it’s november everyone. i haven’t had a chance to do anything these past few weeks. in fact, I have pretty much come to the conclusion that I won't have any free time until December when I graduate. This explains why I haven’t been able to update or do anything at all really. only one month left. it is going to be the hardest and stressful month of my life though.
in regards to my new job, i am now working 40 hours a week and finished my first week of training at t-mobile. it looks like it should be really good gig. they are very environmental friendly, and have several green policies which i admire. there are about 7 more weeks of training, so i will finish on december 26th.

dolcim news:

lars is putting out our full-length on vinyl on react with protest records. Vinyl! this is a really good thing. i put a new video up from our july 1st show at wolfcastle in the music page so check that shite out. also, we are now mastering the songs for the full-length album, and getting close to finishing.

after waiting over 2 weeks, the dolcim stickers are finally here!

part 1 of my summer travels-the las vegas adventure:

on the morning of august 7th , i went to the airport to catch my 7 o'clock flight. i got to the airport at 6:45 and checked in only to find out that i was too late. i missed my flight. i then had to wait 4 hours until my next one. i had never missed a flight before. my new flight had a 2 hour layover in south carolina, which i spent recording sounds of people and airplane noises on my tape player. after 12 hours of traveling, i finally flew into las vegas for my best friend steven's wedding. las vegas was very interesting. upon arriving, i came out of the terminal and the first thing i saw was a slot machine (pictured bottom right). so immediately off the plane you can gamble all of your money away. this city was all about money. after waiting for over an hour, i got my baggage and took a shuttle to my hotel. getting away from the airport on the right shuttle was almost impossible and took forever. i checked into my hotel, and then hung out with steven and sandy and took pictures from the 4 queens hotel balcony where i stayed (pictured below). my friends mike, kristian and kent were flying in that night on a midnight flight. I didnt take into account the time difference and i was really tired by 11, which was 1 am tennessee time. so after we ate, i went up into the hotel and fell asleep. I get a call from the guys around 1230, and their flight had just landed. they took the bus and i met them downstairs. im exhausted but they all just got to vegas and want to go out and do stuff. so i go along. we ended up walking around downtown las vegas until past 4 am, which was 6 am tennessee time. we were offered drugs, limo rides, prostitution, you name it. it was funny too because there was nothing to do.

the next day: the wedding rehearsal was fine and we spent the rest of the afternoon driving around seeing las vegas. parts of the city had smaller scale versions of historical monuments, like the statue of liberty and l'eiffel tower (pictured below). at lunch i was asked if i had my speech ready. my jaw dropped. i forgot that their has to be a best man speech! i spent the afternoon throwing something together. the wedding rolled around and we all got dressed up. i was more nervous than steven was. after interning with a wedding photographer and shooting weddings for a year and a half, it was interesting to actually be in a wedding, especially the best man. i still don't like weddings but it was nice to see steven and sandy both so happy. after the wedding, it was time for the reception. i made the speech in front of everyone fairly well. after that it was time to take pictures. unfortunately, my camera's batteries died halfway through the pictures and i didnt have my camera the rest of the night. but it was a lot of fun because we all hung out together, mr. and mrs. smalley and all of my friends. we went through different casinos and watched a light show on the ceiling of the freemont casino. kristian, mike, and kent's flight was at 6 the next morning so we stayed out as late as we could.

the next morning, i got up at 5 am with the guys and went downstairs to their shuttle. we said our goodbyes. they only only spent a total of 30 hours in las vegas. after that i went out and bought some souvenirs. by this point, i figured that i would probably not return here, so i might as well get something to remember it by. i found a shirt, tank top, and a postcard. las vegas was exactly what i pictured it to be. i could never live there, and after only spending a short amount of time there, i had seen everything i wanted to see. my flight was leaving at 2, so i met up with steven, sandy, his aunt, and steven's dad for lunch. it was getting close to time to leave and we still hadn't gotten our food. i was getting a little nervous, seeing as how i missed my last flight. sandy's aunt assured me that i would be fine. we finished and steven and his dad and i left for the airport. traffic was bad, but we finally got to the terminal. I said my rushed goodbyes, and left. i checked in and found out i missed my check in time by 2 minutes. 2 minutes! I missed my flight again! I couldn't believe it. I spent the next half hour arranging a new flight to los angeles. they had one spot left for a flight that night, but it wasn't until 9. i was just relieved to get the same connection. steven came back and picked me up, and we went to his aunt's house. they had some skateboards lying around so me and steven and sandy's cousin went to a skatepark called "bunker." it was a pretty cool park. but after being there for less than 10 minutes, steven fell and messed up his knee. i skated the park and it was fun while it lasted. pretty soon, it was already time for me to leave again. we left for the airport and i got to say my proper goodbyes. it was really nice to see steven again. i haven't seen him since so i am glad i was a part of this event in his life.

while going through the security check, i handed the guard my passport. he stared at me, and then down at my picture. he looked back up at me and said, "what happened to you son?"

"i guess i grew up sir." i took my passport and walked through the terminal and boarded my flight for los angeles.

next up is part 2: los angeles!

stay tuned...

october 17th, 2008: as the dust begins to settle...

life has been really insane these past few weeks, but things are back to normal now. well if you want to call it normal. things are back to the way they were. I feel numb these days though. Not the numb like when you have ice on a part of your body for a while. I mean where im unaware of my own perceptions, doing things without knowing why. I think i've been numb for a long time, and only realized it recently.

anyway... i've been extremely productive:

my voter registration card came in the mail yesterday. i am an official resident of davidson county in nashville and will vote at belmont down the road from my apartment for this year's election.

also, after extensively looking for jobs, and intense multiple interviews, I have a new job! I start working in grassmere at t-mobile on october 27th. It’s a real job though, which I’ve never had before. But I will have full benefits including health insurance, dental, vision, and my phone bill will be $10 a month, with everything. damn.

in other news, my online classes are taking up all of my time now, but it’s worth it because I take my graduation test next wednesday, october 22nd. Yep, it’s official: after 4 and 1/2 long years, I will be graduating college in December. it’s about damn time.

in dolcim news, I finished the design for our sticker and sent it off to be made so it should be arriving in the next week or so.
the europe tour is official. the dates are set but the countries are not. more as i find out.
We put a rough mix of the song, "alvis has left the building" from the new record up, so go check that out.
The album still isn’t finished because we are all really busy and we can only work on it on the weekends. But to prove we have been working on it, here are some pictures from the studio:

dolcim studio 3 dolcim studio 2 dolcim studio 4
dolcim studio 6 dolcim studio 1 dolcim studio 5

in kafka news: a new song is up. It’s called “seashells” and you are hearing it right now... 3 more new songs have also been finished and will be appearing one by one. Some more exciting news as well: the full-length will be released on tape, much like i recorded most of it. but only after all of the songs are finished of course.

as you may have noticed, there are some new things on my site. i added an archive section for older news, because it was taking too long to load all of the pictures from the old news, so it should load faster now.
Also, after my page went down a week ago, I found a new server to host off of, so it will never go down again.

that's all for now. pictures from las vegas will be up next time...

october 7th, 2008: c’est la vie

my plane for japan left today... without me on it.

depression hovers over me like a thick dark cloud, following wherever i go.

october 3rd, 2008: good news/bad news, life changing decisions

as the leaves are changing outside my apartment, so am i.

it always seems that i find myself in situations where important decisions have to be made. life altering predicaments; how I live my life. now even more so than ever.
i will start with the good news, and lead into the predicament.

dolcim has been asked to tour europe next may. this threw a curveball in my plans.

let’s review:

the good news:
i was given a full-ride scholarship to Saitama University in tokyo, japan, a 6 month program where I could finish school and graduate in may.

the bad news:
four days later, the scholarship was taken away from me because i wasn't staying for a year. apparently the head of the study abroad office awarded me the scholarship without consulting with the head of asian studies or verifying with the university. she also made some big mistakes in regards to my application. so saitama assumed i was studying for a year and i was awarded the scholarship, out of all the students, because my g.p.a. was the highest. in may, the head of the study abroad program quit and moved away. i have been waiting to hear back about my scholarship since last may, about 5 months now. less than a week ago i found out that unfortunately the scholarship was given to the next person after me.

therefore the predicament:
take out a loan and move to japan, or stay here and tour europe next may?

this might be my last weekend.

i’m running out of time and running out of socks.

september 30th, 2008: something about airplanes

i woke up feeling old. my sister turned 17 today. happy birthday little one.

i remember being 17. i broke my face skateboarding when i was 17. after reconstructive surgery, a metal plate and titanium mesh wiring holds my orbital (eye socket) together. it's hard to believe that was 6 years ago. to this day i still don't have feeling in the right side of my face. damn, sometimes i forget.

the new ben folds album came in the mail today. I got the special edition of course with the dvd and booklet, like the last album. I'm excited but I haven’t opened it yet. I'm still bummed about missing the ben folds five reunion show in their hometown, chapel hill, north carolina last week. That’s right, ben folds five (ben, darren and sledge) got back together to play their first show in 10 years. On top of that, hotel lights, darren’s band who I saw a while ago and took pictures of was opening the show. It was going to be epic. I was going to drive up there and steven and sandy and I were going to go. But on the morning the tickets went on sale, the minute we tried to order them, they sold out in 32 seconds. I was heartbroken.

In dolcim news, we finished recording the drums, clean guitar tracks, and all of my bass tracks. We got the rough mixes sunday night, and even rough, they sound pretty damn good. We are all being perfectionists on this album, and since I live my life that way there are still some things I want to do. We are going back in the studio tomorrow so matt can do lead guitar and I can fix a few things. Then we will finish up with vocals. I have a lot of lyrics so i'm a little nervous about it. I am hoping my voice holds out.

it used to be that only in my dreams, my past would return, but now it seems it returns in reality as well. which reality do we choose to live in, and which one is real? one thing is for sure, the past is as real as ever.

I have to go to work now.

I leave you with this:

Lying there, I close my eyes for a time, then open them. I silently breathe in, then out. A thought begins to form in my mind, but in the end I think of nothing. Not that there was much difference between the two, thinking and not thinking. I find I can no longer distinguish between one thing and another, between things that existed and things that did not. I look out the window until the sky turns white, clouds float by, birds chirp, and a new day lumbers up, gathering together the sleepy minds of the people who inhabit this planet.

september 25th, 2008: im back, massive update

well, after 2 long months of my page being down, it started working again. i've been really mad about it and about gave up hope and dropped the whole thing. Sorry for anyone who noticed that it wasn't working.

Anyway. I'm finally back. As usual, there has been a million things going on. I don't have time to update about it today.

I dont know where to start. Las Vegas was interesting, i'll explain later. The wedding went really well, my best man speech turned out better than I thought it would. I will be putting up lots of pictures from that. California was awesome. I couldn't believe it had been years since I had been there. Los Angeles was a lot of fun. I spent most of my time in venice and santa monica, riding around on a bicycle everywhere. I met a lot of really cool people, some from Sundance. Pictures from that trip will be up soon as well.

In dolcim news, there is a lot. we are recording our full-length album this weekend, 26th, 27th and 28th!! We're all excited about it and ready to get these songs finished up. So that's what I will be doing all weekend.
dolcim is now on the react with protest record label. And the dolcim demo is now out on react with protest records (DE). The demo is available on CD and cassette tape. To order it from the react with protest store, go here.
There is also a new VIDEO from the wallstreet show in june 26th. I have added it to the music page so check that out.

In bandara news, the interdimensional songs have been recorded and intercepted by the scientists at the bandara institute. we are working hard to decode them. the bandara institute website will be available to the public this fall...

in kafka on the shore news...I have finished several new songs. I recorded a lot of ambient sounds from las vegas and california that I have incorportated into new songs. I will be uploading them one at a time. I have decided to make the e.p. a full-length, and push it back even farther. I'm sure no one will mind.

I will leave you with this:

august 4th, 2008: florida, alabama, pictures, video, updates

im back from my week long vacation down south. to sum it up, the 9 hour drive was long and boring. upon arriving in panama city, florida i remembered why it has been several years since i had been there. the beach was nice, but i was stung twice by jellyfish the first day. the next day i had a migraine and we spent most of time in the condo, fear of jellyfish i suppose. watched more tv in 1 day than i had in 6 months. we heard sirens on the beach and found out on the news later that 3 people drowned in the ocean. the next day we left. not sure it was worth the drive, but it was nice to see my dad and sister. i know no one reads this so here are some pictures:

granted the sunsets were beautiful, but it didnt make up for the rundown city. i realize why most people go there when they get older, but i still dont understand why anyone would want to live there. tourist trap heaven. i was happy to leave it behind. after leaving florida we drove straight to birmingham, alabama to see our old friend taylor. alabama wasn't much better than florida. the south just gives me a bad vibe. birmingham however had an electricity to it. it was thriving with young people, mostly college students. there were several cool places in town, but overall it was still alabama. taylor gave us a tour of the city. we walked around his neighborhood and went to a skatepark that was torn down. after awhile i liked the city more. by the end of the trip i felt that it was a cool city, just out of place when compared to the rest of the state. here are some pictures of what i saw:

now for some news and updates: steven and sandy came into town before i left for vacation.

I have some big news! steven and sandy are getting married in las vegas! true story, i am flying to las vegas on august 7th. i am steven's best man in the wedding, which is something i have never done before. and since i am flying all the way out west, i have decided to keep going. after the wedding i am taking a bus to venice, los angeles to see my friend amy. i haven't been to california in 2 years so i am excited about going back there.

in dolcim news, we played a show before i left, and we are playing 2 more shows this month. the first show is august 17th in antioch, tennessee. the 2nd one is august 22nd at wallstreet in murfreesboro with under the earth and evil bebos. here are a few pictures from the funhouse show.

kafka on the shore songs are almost finished. the e.p. is going to be pushed back until october possibly due to these new songs, which just means the e.p. will have more songs on it. keep checking the page for a new song.

NEW VIDEO: i have added a song from the last hands show. the song is called "empty theater." head on over to the video page to check it out.

that's all for now. NEXT UPDATES: when i get back from las vegas and venice, there will be pictures from the wedding as well as california and then new songs and photographs.

july 25th, 2008

bad news. it looks like i'm on the injured list:

while skateboarding after work, i severely rolled my left ankle. i went to the orthopedic surgeon to get x-rays, and it took forever. they told me it's not broken, which i could have told them. i broke this same ankle when i was in high school.
but as it turns out, i tore ligaments on both sides of my ankle. they told me i need a walking boot and physical therapy for several weeks. so it looks like im going to be out for 3 weeks.

in news related to skateboarding. i hung out with my friend joey this past weekend, he is moving back to louisiana on thursday so i probably won't see him for a while. but we got a chance to hang out and skateboard together.

in music news, dolcim has a show this sunday the 27th in east nashville. the house we were going to play at this sunday got shut down by the cops and we had to find another venue. The new place is called funhouse. The address is 477 chestnut street, nashville, 37203. just mapquest it.
So if you live in nashville, please come there. its free, osceola is a really good band from baltimore, and full-chin is a guy from japan! it should be a good show.

WORLD PREMIERE SHORT FILM:
finally!!! the moment you have all been waiting for,
"the deal" is finished and now up in the video part of my page. It's a short from 2003 so check it out!

i did a massive update on the sleepinghouse records page, because it had been about 2 months since it was updated. here is what is being released this month:

hands "live at the barn" cd/dvd is now available on sleepinghouse records
greenhill "a likely story revisited" with 2 new never before heard tracks!!
greenhill "work in progress" re-release
velo "ten remastered" full length out
dolcim demo-sold out several times, more copies being made.

check out sleepinghouse.tk for more updates and information on these releases.

in other news:

FLORIDA OR BUST! that's right ladies and gentleman, on monday i am heading off to the beach. it will be good to get out of tennessee for a while. a year ago this month, i was touring europe with cease, i was in sweden actually. so it's strange being here, i usually travel during the summer. anyway, i will be gone for about a week. i got my car worked on and it's road ready. it will give me a chance to use my new tom tom g.p.s system. on the way back from florida i will be stopping off in birmingham, alabama to see taylor.

NEXT UPDATE:
a video from the hands "live at the barn" dvd
pictures from the beach?
something about airplanes?

july 17th, 2008

listen, do you hear that? if your speakers are on, you are hearing the new kafka on the shore song "the beginning." not to give too much away, but it will be the first track on the e.p. which will be coming out in september.

so i'm sitting here in a cafe, reading the crimson labyrinth by yusuke kishi. it's been a while since i checked the internet so i decided to check my page to see if the updates i had done on the fourth of july were working yet, and turns out they were. that has been happening a lot lately, i have been unable to update my page in the last few days because the server has been down . it has been very frustrating and i have no logical explanation for it. apparently my page has been not working on some days and working on others. all i know is that i have been trying to update my page for several days now without any success. so after waiting for days for my page to work, it is now magically working again.

anyway, here is the latest in updates:

my old friend taylor, who i've known since grade school came into town from alabama. it had been over a year since i last saw him. we hung out and talked about old times, when we both used to skateboard together.

we were watching skateboarding on youtube.

speaking of skateboarding, i have found all of the old footage from a skate video my friends and i started making in high school. the video is called "work in progress" and it is just that. i started editing it over 4 years ago. well anyway, i have taken it upon myself to pick the video back up again and finally finish it. i still skateboard from time to time, mostly skateparks, like when i get off work, or when it's been a while. when i finish the video, i will put it on the page.

back to kafka news: i have put up a new song on the purevolume and isound page, but have finally broken down and made a myspace, wah wah i know. i hate myspace, but oh well. it's easier though because you guys can now add me, everyone has myspace. anyway, here is the page: kafka on the shore

just click on that link and listen to the new song and if you want to be my friend, so be it. check that page more frequently than the others because i have decided to make it the main page, and will be updating it more often than the others. i gave the others a chance, but they didn't quite make it.

dolcim has been taking a much needed break, after playing back to back shows and driving back and forth from murfreesboro i needed it. we wrote a new song this weekend, and are working on stuff for the upcoming show this saturday july 19th, which will finally be in nashville at the muse. we are playing with evil bebos, atlas moth, and dawn. if you live in nashville come out!

i updated the music page with more information about the bandara institute. research has commenced and data analysis will follow.

that's all for now, photographs from germany will be up later this week and video from the wallstreet show as well.

an old short film i did in 2004 called the deal will also be premeiring on here very soon so keep checking back.

july 4th, 2008

hello everyone! happy 4th of july.

i have just now gotten a web editing program for my mac laptop. i don't have internet in my apartment so sorry for the lack of updates! this month has been crazy busy. here is what has been going on:

my friend steven just got back from kuwait and came to visit with his girlfriend sandy, so i showed them around nashville:

dolcim has been playing shows nonstop and there are several more this month.

july 19th in nashville at the muse with evil bebos and atlas moth

july 27th in murfreesboro at casa de juan with osceola (a band from up north) and full-chin from japan!!!

if you have made it to the shows, i am sure that you have gotten a copy of our demo which i spraypainted and put together. there is an extra song on it that is not on the page. here are some pictures from the shows:

thanks to mans and men as trees for coming down for the july 1st show and being really cool guys. it was a lot of fun.

i have finally finished several new kafka on the shore songs. it has been a very tedious process and single tracking has proven to be far more difficult and time consuming that i would have ever imagined with some of the songs having 50 + tracks on them. the e.p. killing time and injuring eternity is nearing completion. i will be putting up one of the new songs this week so stay tuned! and possibly a new music page...

bandara is recording our e.p. this month and the website will soon follow that so wait just a little bit longer... the bandara show in july has been cancelled due to a lack of venue.

so june was a very busy month for me and july so far should be just as busy. keep checking back for updates:

new songs, new photographs, new videos

june 2008

i have moved to nashville, expect new music soon.

the dolcim demo is finished and has been passed out at the shows.

the bandara institute will be introduced soon, be patient.

may 2008

dolcim has two shows:

june 17th at house house and july 1st at wolfcastle.

it appears that dot tk has decided to embed an ad at the top of my page, which i cannot remove, so sorry. still trying to find ways to get around it.

the new kafka on the shore song is finished, and just needs to be mastered and i will put it up on both the sleepinghouse.tk page as well as this page.

i've added a world map to see who comes by my page.

short stories section just added.
